David was introduced to working with young people we care for last year. He works with two young teenagers with complex needs. In his practice he has had to think creatively and works with a holistic approach.
David is approachable and has good listening skills and can support the young people to help find a solution together, shifting their mindsets to have a positive out look. I have witnessed David giving the young people space and an opportunity to reflect.
David’s enthusiasm and commitment in his person-centred approach, his belief that a person can make change has helped the young people develop and grow emotionally as well as educationally.

David has been involved in supporting our son for the past year, during a difficult time out of education and with complex needs.  He is an astute communicator and was able to build a deeply trusting relationship almost immediately, due to his warm and positive nature, humour, empathy, and intuition.  These skills have enabled him to respond to our son’s challenges with flexibility, to gently encourage willingness to engage in stepping outside of his comfort zone, and whatever our son’s mood is at the start of a session, we are always left with a happier and more positive person by the end.

David has been working with a resident of ours who is difficult to reach and rarely responds to people he does not know. He had refused to go to college or interact with education in any way, spending much of his time in his room and not interacting with others.
David worked hard to gain the trust, and used a therapeutic approach to persuade him to not only engage in education but to regularly go out with David on various activities, something we had not previously seen with this resident. David has an endearing personality which encouraged the resident to speak to him and explore his feelings behind his emotions. This has allowed us to work more closely with this resident and further explore the topics he raised through David.
David’s approach is patient and supportive while building a trusting relationship in which our resident felt safe to explore and expand creating more positive opportunities and a progressive pathway for his future.
I feel David has been one of the most significant influences for this resident and has supported him to be more social and to feel more at ease when communicating his emotions to elicit a positive outcome.
